Rozerem is a pharmaceutical grade medication that is meant to target insomnia. Generally most prescription strength sleeping aids are very chemically similar but Rozerem has some unique qualities. Known generically as Ramelteon, Rozerem is the first in a new class of drugs developed for the treatment of insomnia. The idea behind this new chemistry is that it attaches itself to Melatonin receptors, the receptors that relate the signal for the body to sleep, in order to boost their effectiveness.
This is an interesting and noteworthy idea since science has proven that melatonin is a vital element of restful and continues sleeping patterns. Furthermore, Rozerem does not produce any anxiolytic, myorerelaxant or amnesic effects. It has already began being implemented for those who suffer from chronic insomnia and those who suffer from delayed onset insomnia, a condition which effects these persons once they are already in the beginning stages of falling asleep.
Rozerem is meant to be taken 30 minutes prior to the desired sleeping time. It can be taken with or without food at the patient’s discretion. It is suggested that it be taken when the individual has a full 8 hours to devote to sleep. Rozerem has no known withdrawal symptoms or rebound insomnia report but there are some side effects mainly reduced sex drive; absence of menses in women; fertility issues; drowsiness during the day; faintness; awkwardness; behavior is more outgoing or aggressive in nature; bewilderment; odd behavior; memory problems; agitation; hallucinations; or depression. As always a health care provider should be contacted in the event that any of these side effects occur.
